Catalysis is one of the cornerstones of modern society since it provides the knowledge and hands-on-tools to produce many materials used in daily life. In other words, catalysts are the workhorses of chemical industry as more than 80% of chemicals have come into contact with at least one catalyst material during their manufacturing process. Furthermore, catalysis is key to create a sustainable environment to all of us in the foreseeable future.
The Netherlands, although relatively small in population and size, has always been at the forefront of catalysis science and technology in Europe and around the world. Most probably this unique position stems from a historic tight link between academia and chemical industries. The Dutch School on Catalysis is indeed internationally renown for its quality and often seen as a role model for other countries to promote university-industrial cooperation as well as educational programs at e.g. Master and PhD level. Furthermore, it has been seminal in the organization of several international conferences, an example being the Roermond Conference. In other words, the presence of specific expertise and infrastructure in the close neighborhood of ?small Holland? has fostered fundamental advances in university and industrial research often leading to new catalytic processes with economic value.
The purpose of this website is to illustrate the strength of such cooperation between different organizations in the Netherlands involved in catalysis research and education. More specifically, The NIOK-Society is a joined effort, which stems from a close cooperation between KNCV-Catalysis, NIOK, NRSCC, VIRAN, ACTS and CATCHBIO.
We hope this website will help you in understanding more about our society and feel free to contact us if you need some specific advice on issues related to catalysis research and education in the Netherlands.
